Heated Imagery
As a photographer living through the Anthropocene, Pearse Anderson is increasingly documenting a hotter and dryer world, no matter his intended subject. In this series, Anderson shares six photographs of landscapes across three continents.
The images show various interpretations of what 'the heat of the moment' could entail: as a Mojave Desert mineral spring that erodes day-by-day; a shepherding family that catches semi-wild horses on the drying, yellow steppe; or the Port Hills of Aotearoa which are set aflame. In a world where polarization and alienation are an everyday reality, is heat a force that increasingly unites us, or, on the contrary, divides us?
Pearse Anderson is a New Yorker photographer, writer, and tabletop game designer living in Rotterdam, where he is searching for collaboration with more Dutch artists. His reporting has appeared in publications including Playboy, The Guardian, WIRED, Rolling Stone, his fiction in Fusion Fragment, Dark Matter Magazine, and Meat for Tea, and his games in publishing houses like Exalted Funeral Press.
